The Howdy Doody Times

She was a princess named
Summer Fall Winter Spring
and all the puppets
not to mention the wannabe cowboy
with the too-clean too-fringed
buckskins and the mobster ducktails
under his spotless ten-gallon,
they all swore she was beautiful
in a cartoon PG-07 way.

As for me, I wondered why Bob
never went near her on the set,
because even a kid knew
even in fifties black-and-white
and even though she was Irish
or maybe Canadian or New York
that she could have been
what his whole show was about.

But he was old Buffalo Bob
and she was the Indian maiden,
and I finally know why
when they named her they thought
they ought to say Spring last.

Oh so do I. I was a great Howdy Doody fan and I thought Princess Summer Fall Winter Spring was beautiful.

Great job.

Perhaps I was deprived as a child, never getting to watch... but that deprivation is ended... for through your words, I see, I hear... I'm there. *S*

And that, my friend... is poetry.... FINE poetry. *S*

I loved Howdy Doody and the Mickey Mouse Club.
Days of such sweet innocence. I sometimes get confused about WHAT TIME IT IS...  But, Wednesdays are still... ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN DAY!    Wonderful memories.  Thank you.
