And I'm supposed to be afraid
oh-you-must-be-idiot
do you think that I have waned
without the waxing of the moon?

I'm supposed to be a-skeered
of all the things I thought were fear
eight eyes and the tentacles
underneath the water was

a simple horror picture show
but I was not quite aware
of how the monsters were in there
dangling by strings...

I am not afraid of you.
I watched movies with my dad
and saw the soldiers trudging steps
with their footboots full of lead

as the refugees fled South
against the tide of blood red green
camouflaged
and things they'd seen
were damp and dark and empty
clean
of lessons they had learned too fast
of tunnels and a trip-wire trap
with babies crying in the street
strapped with bombs
that trigger sweet

nothings...in a soldier's ear
someone
who was trained to care
stopped to pick that baby up

and blew away himself

with love...

and I would rather die
than drive
around the bundled innocent--

and I am not afraid of you -

But I scare myself.

sighing, Karen..I don't know how you have these thoughts swirling in your head...but
they touch a chord in me...always
(even though I can't relate in experience)

sweetie?

I don't know why, but people tend to tell me things.

And I can't get 'em out my head.

smile

maybe that's why they tell me things...

love you

Serenity...Awesome write. Touches on  a subject we all pray would end, war.

I would love to look inside your head and see whatI would find but then I might get lost and never find my way back, or maybe I wouldn't want to leave LOL...Paul

Ah, this poem says so much more between the lines than what is expressed in the words on the page ( and those words say a great deal) Sometimes it is much easier to face those monsters on the outside than to deal with our own personal internal monsters. In all reality one should be more afraid of herslef/himself than others for we can not control what others will do but we do control what we ourselves do ( is this making any sense at all    Anyway, enough said other than this is an excellent write full of vivid imagery

Yup that is you ..."word blessed."  Now this was absolutely worth the saving, but then most of your poems are.  Maybe it could be I think that is the only way I will ever have a book of "you" in my hands?

Understanding the emotions running beneath this.  You are what every mother who loves is...and God/Goddess help the poor soul who would harm an innocent with you near.  luv you lady.......jo
