I listened yesterday but only heard today
the soft melodic tone of simple reasoning
so I ringed it and bagged it and tied it with string
to be easily opened again
when the heart grows weary and tired
of an emotional see-saw ride.

I placed it precisely in juxtaposition
with my can of intuitive feel
hoping the two would “buddy-up” soon
and walk out of the closet as adults.

I waited until another day dawned
before rushing off to the store
in jeans and tackies and oversized jacket
to buy a branded can opener
because only the best can help the rest
review what went down in the can.

Packed like sardines caught and snagged
on an aged old fisherman’s line
lay all the dreams a woman can feel
insightfully staring at air.

Already an error; sardines are too small
for one only line to fill up a can
so I ticked and I crossed
until fingers grew numb
and midnight got lost in the past.

Before it was known the can had blown
and the bag had parted from string
behind my face and in front of my back
without any prior warning ~
so it tells me, my friends, that love’s just a blend
of an ordinary can and a bag!

The opening line had me and I was kept all the way through!

Thanks guys and gals. Love just is and some would say ... until it isn't but I can't go with that.
