Hearing some raucous feathered friends
vocalizing in nearby fields and trees today
was refreshing, invigorating, a renewal of sorts.
Though my ravenous rowdy Alaskan ravens
are no longer within earshot,
I think of them,
with their brilliant beady eyes,
their noisey beaks breaking the silence
of a soft snowdrifting morning
in the Interior.
Suddenly, I have a horrendous heartache,
missing my nightly midnight strolls
in winter’s white willowed woods,
and my mid-day ambles
alongside the moose trails,
wrapped in the low angled sunlight
that rarely peeks high enough above the horizon
to really warm the land, not even at high noon.
But if I listen to my own heartbeat
perhaps, I can hear all those sounds
reverberating within the frail walls
that encompass my humanity.

I'm sure you could!

This is beautiful and am sorry you miss them, well, not sorry you miss them , rather sorry they are not BY you.

Reminded me of blackbird . . .

"Take these broken wings and learn to fly . . .  all your life . . . you were only waiting for this moment to be free . . ."

I love this, but those last 4 lines I reallllly love!

Midnitesun, do you really live in Alaska?  Or is it just that Alaskan ravens visit where you are?

From what I have heard, Alaska is beeyooooootiful.

Talking about whales (or rather thinking about them), right now on South African TV there is a whale swimming up the Thames through London - apparently a first in the known 2000 year history!
