A Country Song

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

My life plays like a country song,
With notes both sweet and sour.
It can turn on a slippery dime,
At any given hour.

The sun can be shining bright,
Then dark clouds scud the skies.
Smiling lips turn upside down,
And tears fall from my eyes.

Love flies in the window,
Then creeps out the back door.
Tho’ my heart keeps on breakin,’
It jumps back in for more.

At times things are goin’ my way,
Then I fall down on my luck.
Don’t have a nickel to save myself,
And my soul cain't buy a buck.

I got holes in my pocket,
And craters in my heart.
I wish the sun would shine again,
And give me a new start.

My life plays like a country song,
With notes both sweet and sour.
It can turn on a slippery dime,
At any given hour.

“Happiness is a state of mind.
Think happy ~ be happy!”

Luva your lyrics, Linda.  So true about turning on a dime...But you Sweet Angel have
the gift of faith and roll nicely with the punches.  Have I yet to find a poem of yours that has not been a keeper?  Thank you for your many sparks.

SweetEarthyOne~
Your posting made me think of legendary country singer, Buck Owens, who passed away on March 25, 2006, and whose services will be held today, April 2, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. in Bakersfield, California~

'It can turn on a slippery dime,
At any given hour.'

Yes ... and thank you for this~

misc'e ~

It was the strangest thing. I was sitting here at the computer this morning and these achy breaky words started pouring out of me. Then when I went to read them, I found myself singing them to a melody that I was making up in my head as I was  reading along!  -- and voila! A song was born! lol

Thank you for your generous comments! Your replies always make me smile, my friend!

Loves 'n country hugs,
Linda

Marge ~

Aw, yes! I remember Buck Owens fondly! I had not heard of his passing. I suppose this was a timely writing as this is the day of his interment. God speed, Bucky!

Thank you, Marge.

Hugs with love,

(smiles) And I reckon you've just crafted a mighty fine high fallotin' melody that Nashville would love to holler out in a heartbeat! (smiles) March sunshine and April showers bring May flowers when you're around I tell you wut, yay, I love this song all up, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Great lyrics....wanna hear ya sing it...is it sung to the tune of "She Broke My Heart at Walmart and I cried all the way to Sears?"....Balladeer wrote one once..think it was called, "If my love life was like a Texaco, I'd be at the self service pump."
