You caught me lost in reservations weighing wrongs in happenstance,
On the tracks to never knowing the needles of romance.
As I stood the world twirled faster, chances blurred like shooting stars
Past the blind man left lamenting that one of them was ours.

I saw you smiling at another who wrapped you in his tenderness
But missed the whispers of deception that lay in your caress.
It’s a bitter draft that never knowing, a drink I thought I’d never taste,
It cuts the tongue and twists tomorrow ‘til everything’s displaced.

So here I am derailed and broken - a shadow in a shallow world
Who caught each kiss you ever gave and every blade you hurled.
I’m on my way to never knowing down a spur of happenstance
Heading downbound and as close as I can get to no romance.

what an excellent rhyming here! The theme is a bit sad but touching. I can relate to this, and that's what makes a poem so good for me!

great rhyming, indeed love it!

You seem to be on your own passing shadows – which means I must be doing something wrong, never mind I’ll endeavour to persevere.

Thank you for reading

What an enjoyably sophisticated
I-lost-at-the-love-game write.
And fine rhyme to boot!
