When my sister’s second husband left her
   actually he was her third
   she married the first twice
when my sister’s third husband left her
she yelled
    take the damn dog
as the door closed
behind him

we sat in her morning garden
queen’s dew covering the grass
and took tea from Royal Doulton
she did not smell the carefully planted wild roses
as they disappeared over the garden wall
or see the jeweled hummingbird
sipping at memories from the honeysuckle
not able to hover long enough
to drink his fill
she did not see me
sitting across the table
sifting through her years

she railed
this sister of mine
tiny little trick
nearly 100 pounds of fury
in a pink silk frock
from her lipsticked mouth
she spit forth rage
bile
turned the riotous rings on her fingers
tortured her body with wrath
and memories of her now gone husband’s
faults
all meant to kill her spirit
she walked her garden
dragging pitiful shadows from her feet
finally
she quieted

we sat
in her perfect garden
her demolished world
until the bell moon
perched itself
on the sky

she stood
and moved to the wall

my sister
lay her arm over her eyes and
cried out to the night
oh God
what shall I do
he’s even taken my dog

G'day The Lady.  Thought this might cheer her up.

BERT’S WILL

"A cappuccino would be nice
And thank you Anne dear friend.
Since Bert has died I've felt quite lost,
But time has helped things mend."

"I guess what hurt the most dear Anne
Was finding in Bert's will;
To me he never left a thing;
A truly bitter pill."

"He never left you anything!
I thought Bert more sincere,
But is that diamond ring not new
You're wearing sister dear?"

"Well let me put it this way Anne.
Bert's will did leave a bit;
Five grand for a memorial stone
And this dear Anne ... is it."

I would bet she misses the dog the most!:-)You have a way of making me feel I know your characters. I just wanted to send the little lady a hug. Great! :-)
