Toy Soldiers

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Toy
wooden soldiers,
standing in
a row,
with eyes staring
forward,
in to the eyes
of foe.

Painted
tin-man soldiers,
with rifles
raised up high,
if you really listen,
you can hear
their battle
cry.

Little
toy soldiers
are facing
one another,
as it is
with every war,
it's brother fighting
brother.

***

Some
are made from
wood,
some
are made from
tin,
but a soldier
is a soldier,
no matter
the uniform
he's in.

“We are borne of star dust,
and to the stars we shall one day return.”

Very true. Enjoyed the read this morning.
The toy soldier reminds me of the song from the 70"s One Tin Soldier. Still have the 45 somewhere.

Do hope your feeling better my friend.
Hugs

Earth Angel, How well this illustrates where the battles must first be won. The little toy soilder no doubt was a gift to a child who will someday become a man. Peace doesn't stand a chance until we parents choose it for our children. Your a treasure! God Bless!

I have to echo Steven. The love of peace
is a gift we must give our children.
And yes, you are a treasure. Wonderful poem.

Mr. T. ~

Yeppers! A loooong, loooong, way to go. Actually, violence appears to be on the rise in the actions of many toys ~ from video games to kid's machine guns.

Goldenrose ~

I ahbhor violence in any form. Our children are exposed by so much of it through their video games, movies, toy weapons etc, that they are becomeing enured to it. They don't even blink an eye when they see blood and guts schtuff!

Steven ~

Violence has become far too common-place in the world of our youngsters. They are bombarded with it at every turn. It saddens me.

Well said Linda...skin is skin...blood is
blood.  And in battle, there are no winners,
only those that lost less.

playing with toy soldiers has never appealed to me, but the truth in your poem appeals greatly;

Cute One ~

Hi, Buttons! My brother used to play with toy soldiers and I loved to play cowboys and Indians with my Dale Evans cowgirl outfit and gun belt. I had a bee bee gun, bows and arrows etc. Fortunately, we both grew up to be very peaceful souls. However, that is not always the case. Some children are more vulnerable than others.

Peace & Love,
Linda

G'day Linda.  Sadly sacrificing our youth to the gods of war has been a pastime of policitians for centuries.  So many who have been cut down in the prime of their youth.  I find it remarkable that in war time soldiers have stopped fighting at Christmas time and come out of their trenches and shared fellowship for a short time and then went back to their battles.

Enjoyed your refelections.
