Morning Window Frame
August 1999

Coral symbols of the sun
in the top-right corner
explode
like Christmas decorations
on my Erythrina.

My verandah is camouflaged by spreading branches reaching round
and moss on the low, curved wall
and mottled paintwork on the once-white balustrade
and a gentle scattering of orange petals and drying leaves
on grey-brown stone.

The morning is unfolding
and I try to memorise
each single note of avian symphony;
the sun splashes on trunks and branches;
the lighting of the multitudinous leaves;
the curve, the intertwining of each uniquely-shaped branch.

And all the while
in the foreground sits my feline prince,
striped and on the window-sill,
watching me
and sending green-eyed messages of warmth and wisdom.

And in the top-left corner, mouse-sized cars
thread through the dove-grey ribbon
of a softly humming highway.

Diana...sounds like a lovely way to start the day.  I've seen the view out your window, thanks for that!

Oh Diana. I love the view from your morning window. Your veradah is particularly lovely and who is that sweet green eyed prince perched on your window sill?

Thank you Kate for enjoying my home so warmly.  The green-eyed prince on the (inside) window-sill, is Tigger, my beloved tabby cat.

Beauty, memory and peace....hard to find a better combination than that. I think I'll keep this one for a while....library it is.

Beautiful pictures you paint in my mind Owl. Now when can I see the ones you must surely paint on canvas? :-)

Thank you, Ed, for bumping this up, for understanding it so well and for enjoying it so much.

I wish, I wish, Steven - but no, I don't and can't paint, although I melt into the paintings of the greats and others.  However, I did write a poem called The Bridge about a painting and will post it tonight.  Thank you for your kind words and for enjoying my poetry.
