   The sun sinks behind
the horizon,
the last of the light swallowed
by the approaching storm.
And he thinks---story of my life.
A fat drop of icy rain
stings his face
   and again he thinks---
story of my life.
He turns to slowly walk away.
Why hurry he has no place to go.
The rain comes with a vengence,
hiding the tears on his face,
   drenching him, but nothing
can cleanse him anymore.
   Shivering with cold, with loneliness,
with an ache bone deep
   he wouldn't know what to
do if it was gone.
   He stumbles on,
   past windows glowing with warmth,
   past the church, music riding
on the storm chased air,
   stopping at the corner house
he used to call home,
where his wife and baby girl
used to be...before
   Before his drunken stubborness
cost them their lives
   and his own.
On he walks, to the cemetery
gate.
   Standing over the single grave,
reading the headstone
   "Beloved"    now no more.
With a sigh, he sinks to
the rain soaked ground
   and wraps his arms around
all he has left of them
   whispering his love, his heartache,
his sorrow.
   "Beloved"
   And no more.

This is very beautiful. The imagery is wonderful. I can see him at the end, in the rain, with a scruff of beard, a jacket with big pockets, knees collapsed at the grave, tears mixed with the rain. You painted this well with words. Good job.
