Oh, Mankind, you have shed too many tears,
To seas your endless plight does taste impart;
The deeps contain the substance of your fears
And perished victims of your mortal heart.
But do not all sentient beings grieve?
Though countenance may not their pain betray,
Sorrow’s hands do the fairest blanket weave
And ‘neath the veil all equal lives decay.
Mankind, the sea you claim to your despair
But floods your eyes and mirrors one-way sight —
Do you not hear Earth’s creatures gasp for air?
Does naught live in your heart but selfish fright?
If so, your fears shall be all creatures’ grave,
As sorrow drowns the faceless and the brave.
