on Wednesday afternoon

I dropped you off
at the airport.
not a tear was shed.
you smiled and
thought of marriage.
I smiled back and
rubbed my knees.

I offered to help
with the bags.
you were fine.

we parted ways
with a short kiss,
one of shortest
we’ve ever had.

I don’t remember
waving goodbye
as I drove away
or glancing at
the trouble
you must have had
carrying that
huge packsack.

I recall thinking:
it’s a long
drive home.

I like your style, its quite conversational and yet it is not immediately obvious am I making any sense? I didn’t think so Suffice to say I enjoyed the read, hope to catch some more of your work soon
