For Soleil Noir, who is sister to me in so many ways.

Travelers In The Dark

What’s hidden can be sweeter,
and we know which is more thrilling,
charms that call, veiled and willing,
behind a mist of soft black lace,
or skin stripped naked in Saran.

We run below, in the forest darkness,
down here where the life is,
not grazing like pale butterflies
along the sunlit canopy.

Down where the life is, fathoms under
the waves, we two fathom by touch alone
what never can be seen, cover ourselves
in what is real, from out the deep sand.

We could choose snow, the glare of sun
and sudden avalanche, but for us life lies
within, fed by the glacier’s deep blue song
and the white milk wrenched from stone.

For us there are no maddening ripples
because we own the turning deep below,
and there we are such kin
as only we can know.

not grazing like pale butterflies

I think the last 2 verses are my favorites... but this is such a striking image I couldn't help but highlight it! *S*

What a beautiful gift... lucky is the recipient of both the poem and such a special relationship. *S* Great work!!

I love the emotion and sincerity within this poem....and the stanza above, especially, "the white milk wrenched from stone", is so beautiful in every way.

I'm sure Soleil will be very pleased with such a poetic gift.

This is the verse
that touched me, Jamie...
having been touched
with the saying:
ice princess with a heart
in my past...

and probably in my future as well.

Who knows?

The earth could certainly use
some melting
placed well, and in the
proper areas.

In the meantime,
my humble thanks
will have to do.
