“I’d paint the room white”  I thought
while humming
to some background
music of a rain-soaked windshield
that I was drowning in
life guards never saw me go down
can’t imagine
wanting to swim in black water?
eating half-empty cans
of bleak highways
dropping my diamond ear rings
into the hamper
cascades of late winter blues
now falls into summer
I’m still alive
but had everyone fooled
punching cigarette packs
while climbing a bar stool
I fell over a fence
kicking it withvengeance
this season’s biting my lip again
no more moody smells
rolling down the chin
of my dreams
still, today I’ll pop an Advil
blazing like a nova
it’s first beckoning smile
stands by a water pump
leaving my tiny veined
bite mark on the mug
of chameleons hiding dark circles
I’m wickedly on solid ground
feeling sweet adrenaline resound
even though
winter froze my dreams
my red hair
streaked with morphine
a heavy woman with broad shoulders
my pet name
fitting goose down slippers
popping my finger joints
rolling cat-eyed marbles
that I saved for good luck
knocking on walls
looking for studs
growing strawberry cheeks
affixing my star
in our flowing northeast
knocking down barricades
revving my engine
buying shares
to Kentucky Fried Chicken
while listening to a soul channel
called Bigfoot
even the spiders are leaving
from the basement of grieving
smoke is bubbling from the bong
on the front porch
while pain of memories groan
fading into everyday friendly
polishing my Saint Christopher
that turned into a living fossil

Happy Monday & President's Day

Maybe you should re-think the color purple.
Forget the white paint.
Nice write Lee J.
