I know, I know... it's winter...but, just couldn't resist a SUMMERTIME poem!

"HAYROLLS"

Children of the spring,
shouldered dark against July's tree-line.

Deathwound clover and timothy giving birth
to the illusion of movement
on the stillness of fodder.

Are they circling the field, like westbound
cloth-covered wagons - are they making camp?

I rub my eyes and look again.

Surely, the fences will hold till morning!

As I have stood in our pasture
during all the seasons,
I certainly can see
what you saw.
