When sorrow rang
And tears flooded the valley
Storms crossed their eyes
With flashes of lightning
As thunder echoed inside
The mountains were laid low
And the torrent filled the streets
When sorrow sang soft and sweet

Hands were raised up
In their fruitless plea
Tremble, the unfaithful servant
One and all in their shame
Upon the land once abundant
Vain washing of filth away
Defiled with all their wanton weep
When sorrow sang soft and sweet

Blind the guardians were
As doom stole in through the night
Footsteps haunted by wailing cries
Too late for the mourner’s lament
To kill the anguish inside
Only darkness that follows their feet
When sorrow sang soft and sweet

When sorrow rang
In countless voices, dirges unheeded
The flood of countless tears
Washes not the stains away
Of a thousand tortured years
But drowns all together in death’s deep
When sorrow sang, soft and sweet

I'm hearing music everywhere tonight.

I confess that the title didn't "grab" me, but the poem did. Well-written, with a soft, angst and flow that I found compelling.

Enjoyed.

WordMagician~

You've totally captured me with this penning~
It tops out as my best read of the day~
(that's going some distance !)

And this -

'When sorrow sang soft and sweet'

- could easily be a beautiful title~

Thank you, thank you~
