One foot in front of the other
Marching endlessly
Into the Dead Sea

Behind the walls, in Jerusalem
The via de la Rosa beckons
Some to continue carrying
Crosses no one should bear

I heard the blast before I felt the sting
As the door nearly blew itself off the hinges
And the young Arab girl walking behind me
Was sent to meet her maker that day

I walked away in tears, still do after all these years
Wonder what she did to piss off a God
Some profess is gentle and kind

Never mind
It’s just another day immersed in reality
as the clock still ticks for me
and I know not why.

It is the very darned thing, Kacy, to understand why somethings happen.  We can't even grasp that our grief will someday pass and sometimes our rage never does.  Ken

The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light

Thank you for reading, Eric.
ME news always sets me back a bit, remembering my year in Israel.

Clap! Clap!

I definitely understand where you are coming from, indeed.

how exactly was this God's fault? Men are given freedom of choice and some make really bad choices...

"I heard the blast before I felt the sting
As the door nearly blew itself off the hinges
And the young Arab girl walking behind me
Was sent to meet her maker that day"

This grand-daughter of Ishmael was cast out of life
As was her ancestor, who called his father Abram, cast out of the promise(d) land,
To wander the desert endlessly...
.
*The first mistake she made was to be born Arab..
...She started the fight by this,
Her existence alone is an aggravation to the heirs of Isaac..

This is an ancient fight, an "eye for an eye", still the rule of law,
administered by the more powerful, who follow outdated words
In a very old book....

This is a timeless poem, written at the proper time....

was in new york awhile back
looking at the empty sky there
wondering whose god
called that a comedy

not sure there will be a side
that wins this one

enjoyed the poem

Thanks for these replies.
But SEA? that 11 year old girl was simply walking down the street on her way home from school. How in the world can anyone attribute this to a bad choice on her part?
Anyway, if I can lay credit on God's doorsteps I can also lay blame.
Either way, that poor girl never had a say-so in what happened, irregardless of any belief in God, irregardless of any attributes we assign to him.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean it was in any way her fault, but God didn't blow things up, people did that. They made that choice...that is what I meant..

SEA, thank you.
Most days, I don't really believe in God anyway. And sometimes, S(HE) just makes me want to spit.

oh my gosh, i'm sorry this happened

quote:
Some to continue carrying
Crosses no one should bear

this was especially hard-hitting and aching

your ending struck me deep. some things question our faith in religion. i relate
