Oshivaldo
17 December 2005

In your pale green T-shirt
your sadness painted
in huge empty HIV eyes,
a solitary little boy,
your childhood has been amputated
and you have been spewed into
a lonely adult life
with no parents
and with siblings who have run away
without you
and a house to take care of
all alone
except for a boarder
who doesn’t pay
a little boy.

If all we can do
is give you our prayers,
you have them,
by the thousand.
May you soon
see past the pain
to a brighter future
and may you actually
have
a future
and may you blossom
and may you know
boundless, but treasured
happiness
and may you spread it
further and faster
than the virus
ravages your country.

Oshivaldo,
the documentary
told me your name
and I will tell it
abroad.

Diana, this one grabs the heart.
Oshivaldo...it's such a beautiful sounding name
attached to such a sad lifestory. I hope he will survive, and move forward into happier moments.
Peace, and good wishes to Oshivaldo, and all the world's children who suffer needlessly.

You’ve got no room to talk, Marge, LOL!  Your heart is made of platinum (far more valuable than gold!).  Thanks, though.  It is sad that such a plight as Oshivaldo’s is multiplied by the millions all over the world who are in similar or equally sad or even more sad positions – and such young children who should be having happy childhoods.

Thank you Nightshade.  Yes, and if it hadn’t been for the documentary, we wouldn’t have known about him.

Thanks James.  Hugs, and strength and hang on to the happy memories of your mother.

Thanks pictureme.  Yes, it really does seem so unfair, especially when this sort of thing happens to children.

Thanks midnitesun.  I thought so too (about his name).  Thanks for your kind wishes for Oshivaldo and all suffering children.

Thank you so much all, for adding your prayers for Oshivaldo to mine.  I believe very strongly in the power of prayer.  It works miracles especially when it seems as though nothing else will.  I often pray that people (especially children) who are suffering have at least one very happy moment (either at the time, or per day) to relieve the suffering and make it easier to go on.
