Simple steps in the dark with toes in search
Of holes (perhaps even ghosts)
While delicate branches dare to brush her shoulders
Where whispering leaves have often told her,
“Be brave through the night and
At dawning, I’ll thread you bits of light.”

Scared, she walked the darkness
Convincing herself all would be right:

“Why cower in the dark when there are
hundreds of universal skies?  Cower, why?
In the darkness, so many suns!
Some eclipsed by horizon,
Some by play of sky;
But truth is truth and light IS there,
Has been there,
And even in suns Death,
Still comes light!”

Although it may seem simple
to walk alone in the dark,
for some
it requires affirmation
from stars
their sunlight.
That indeed, all...
all will be right

Indeed, all will be right.

I read it a few times to obtain what your meaning is... I like that. This is a cool poem. I like your style.

Thanks.  Stick around, the style changes!  (I like to experiment.)  This is one of my more serious poems, as I have always been afraid of the dark.  It wasn't until I began star gazing more frequently and reading about the multitude of universes that I started to put it together.  Whether we see the light or not, it is there.  Not much different than playing hide and seek with the stars, I guess.  We may hide, but still we rest under their presence.  They may hide, but they are still present. With all the suns present on the other side of the horizon, why be afraid?  Just a thought.

thanks for reading and commenting,

miscellanea

You are welcome... I also enjoyed reading your last comment... quite interesting, indeed.

"I have gone away. The bed is cold and empty. Trees bend their boughs toward the earth. And nighttime birds float as black faces."

I'm glad you found it interesting.  What astonishes me most is that we still see the light of stars that died hundreds and hundreds of light years ago.  Now doesn't that make you wonder if a star's energy can be that powerful, what power does a loved ones spirit hold?  I would imagine it would take a phenomenal amount of time for it to dissipate within the universe...

Oh my, I'm babbling!  Anyway, thanks for all of your comments.

Hope,

Have you watched the meteor showers around August 11th or 12th?  It is one of my favorite times of the year.  A few years back, however, I watched a meteor show so spectacular, that I had to wake up the whole household.  It was in December, I believe.  With blankets upon our shoulders, we watched for two hours, during which time we counted over 500 meteors.

(Thanks for sharing that you are also a stargazing enthusiast!)

Thanks, Jo.  I think we both have a lot of Dad in us, but you are the writer!  You do him proud!  Matter-of-fact, this piece was inspired by you and several other of the poets I've been reading tonight.  In my reading, I often found a common theme--one about our soldiers and war.  When I went out stumbling in the dark to get the dog after that, I felt humbled by others' courage.

Thanks for your kind response, Jo.  Have a good evening/morning?  What time is it?  Ouch!

Martie,
I'm glad that this could be comforting. Sometimes, when I feel down or scared, I have to find different tricks like this to pysch me up.  Mind over matter, I guess.  Reading beautiful poetry such as yours and that of others has been been a great way to get pysched up, too!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your sweet response.

Having met you, makes this poem even more special in so many ways. In that very brief time, we shared SO much, that I can very well see the why and how of fear, confronted. This makes me very proud of you!

[Yes, I'm working on that poem...]

Both your poem and your responses brought memories tumbling... I will never forget those meteor showers a few Decembers ago... the joy was more than worth the shivers... and the crick in the neck! *S*

Your words invite introspection... I'm so glad I accepted the invitation. *S* This is excellent!!!
