If time were not a merchant standing watch over
countless wrinkles, spots and waning libidos,
what would carry the weary soul?

For countless years I have stood the solitary watch
of my own shadow....peered silently into a reflective
mirror....looking into an eye, waiting for an answer
that came through slumber...

Why must the soul become a restless partner of
this journey?  Where hourglasses stand in solitude
and dunes shift slowly over an oasis of heartbeats
which have counted endless numbers of heartaches
and fear...

Why should fear stand strong, unwavering in it’s
own corner?  Quiet, ominous, a streak of light
before the lightning’s clap of thunder over a
plain of grasses waving....  A windward shore of
lonely steps awash in the brine of a marsh...as
breezes squint....and a look over one’s shoulder
reveals but a water streaked mirror....awaiting
my return.

Thought my strength oft wanes....I shall not fear.
For life has left my glass filled with blessings..
And among them....I count many souls...kind
souls who have loved and laughed with me
through endless days and chilling nights....

And, if only one day...I might see, might sense
their presence....and reach, stretching an
arm...straining to touch the hand of those
who have blessed me....then I will look in
reflect and say it has been a treasure...a
priceless treasure which one shall never
forget...

Barry

You caught me with your beginning question

"If time were not a merchant standing watch over
countless wrinkles, spots and waning libidos,
what would carry the weary soul?"

Excellent write, deeply felt here!  The answer is different for everyone I'm sure..for me, each minute brings new meaning and beauty.  I build a platform with these things to carry my weary soul. And, I see more clearly the light that is there showing me the way.

Okay, where was the hankey alert on this one....I had no idea it would get to me the way it did when I started reading.  BJ, you are just terrific in expressing things!   ....jo

I sometimes think that it is pain that best heals wounds, silence that opens our ears to music, and aloneness that helps us appreciate friends.  Beautifully written, Magnus.

This positively aches with longing, Magnus. A very honest write, even laced as it is in poetic jewels.
