Cold night, and a freezing dawn
Ice on the puddles and birdbath:

Five a.m. my lungwart slumps,
Preparing for sleep in its bower-
Beneath
Douglasfir branches-its silver
Dulled, to death-gray ash,
Its green, a wilted, midnight black.

Last night the pumpkins froze,
I know all will slump
As the day goes-on, grins
Drooping to frowns; The Jays
And chipmunks
Have raided the cornstalks,
That I put up to celebrate fall...

Hidden reasons, have the laws of changes-
Nothing stops the earths revolve.
I accept. and  feel no loss of passion
When the line is clearly crossed
That divides the natural seasons.

But my love feels different,
Adjusts in her own way
(Most times slowly)
So I try to bright her woe
With consolations-
In form of actions,
Never attempting
To change how she feels
Or reacts to things leaving,
(children or seasons)

I plan out demonstrations
That satisfies mens need to fix,

Before dragging out
The holiday trunk,
Before she stirs awake
And finds that autumns gone;

I go outside and dump
The dead chrysanthemums-
Remove the witch
And scarecrows, from the lawn.

...and then

Drinking coffee,
Untangle lights
While humming,
Winter-Christmas songs.

Ford I love this!!
You put me right into the holiday spirit.
Expecially you untangling lights from the trunk for her...
taking the fall decorations down..
that is such a sweet expression of love.
Holiday hugs~Nancy

Now - while the leaves still dance on the wind
While the moon and the clouds come spinning
Will you whisper my name again?
Again...and again...

Thank You, Nancy...

What a sweet reply...

Note:
Some may not know what a "lungwart" is, odd name I know....but it is a beautiful perennial that likes the shade. It stays green in my garden up until about mid-November..

There is a picture in google images if anyone would like to see what it looks like...
Just type in "lungwart"

Ford

Loving the change and seeing how love can make it beautiful again.  Your poem pleased me a great deal...stomping a dainty foot as I look out the window at a 71 degree morning full of fire danger.  You never disappoint!

Yes Ford, I have one but always called it a
Pulmonary plant..
that's what my friend who gave it to me called it.
It is also one of the first to perk up and bloom in the spring.

(big angel hugs) Oh Ford, this is soooooooo beautiful, sweet friend, your golden heart resonates with holiday spirit as always and fills these robin egg blue pages with rapture, yay! Me and my sisters have begun to put up Christmas decorations today together and I'm beginning to engineer my vocals like a chanticleer so I can sing holiday songs at community centers and rescue missions to cheer up others, yay, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Ford, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

~sigh~ I love the caring, the gentle touch you give to your love, and nature

I am keeping this, for it's a treasured timeless seasonless expression of love, Ford.

Even though I dislike Christmas songs immensely, I find myself doing this same thing when the kids come over to do up my house.
This is a great write.

Me, I find it much easier to sing carols (let alone to mean 'em!).....if I'm warm and I don't have a cold......

As you can well imagine, I loved every moment of this meander through your garden and then into your house.  What a touching blend of the love of nature and the love of your life!

Every now and then, I run across something here at Pips that I find to be a truly
splendid write.  This sir, is one of those times.  Exceptional writing Ice.
