Punching the Clock
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

I’m overwhelmed and under-paid,
I live my life in masquerade.
Nothing is as I dreamed it’d be,
~I’m fed up to the ‘n’th degree!

I punch a clock at my work place,
And tread the wheel of life’s rat race.
Orders here, and orders there,
~I’d rather live in solitaire.

~*~

I put in eight hard hours a day,
Then punch the clock and grab my pay.
I then head home to kids and wife,
But I am bored with same old life.

I need some spark to light my fire,
~Something new to bring inspire,
To get the sap to flow again,
Or I will surely go insane!

~*~

A chance for change came my way.
She bared her wares in bold display.
Her words and ways were quite exciting.
I felt the fires within, igniting.

With ruby lips pressed in to mine,
Up popped a warning ~ “Danger” sign.
There was a price for siren’s kiss,
~ My wife and kids, I'd sorely miss.

~*~

Why risk it all for something new?
~This road was one I'd not pursue.
I’d honor family, self, and work~
Be stand-up guy ~ and not a jerk!

With wanderlust, there came a cost.
I shuddered at what could be lost.
I sighed relief at my close call,
For in the gamble, I'd lose all.

~*~

When punching out at end of day,
I now head home and want to play,
With my kids ~ and with my wife!
For now I love my family life!

Ah this is precious.  Weighing the cost and thwarting temptation!

(smiles) Yay! Oh Linda, this is indeed such an ever present situation that so many moms and dads have to cope with in their daily routine, how to provide for their family while also being able to have plenty of time to raise their family! (sigh) It seems our society is continuing to tangle itself in the former, and I certainly hope it can become so we can find increasing flexibility to spend with our children without the fear of losing work! God Bless You, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Linda, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Linda, you can sure write beautiful poems about anything and everything. I sure understand about being underpaid.

SC ~

Well, my dear, when you complete your course (and you WILL complete it) your pay cheque should hopefully increase accordingly! Hold that thought as you are working your way through the Latin in your books!

Hugs with love,
Linda
