~MY ROSA~

Diminutive giant.

The audacity!

A refusal moment
etched forever
in our collective brains.

American freedom fighter.

Heroine.

Mile high icon dazzling before my eyes.

And though as a young girlchild
I daily watched the adventures of Superman,
(more powerful than a speeding bullet)
you were a thousand times more powerful to me,
flew higher than any eagle I ever did see.

Rest in Peace, my Rosa.
Part of your spirit
will remain here on Earth,
embedded forever
within the heart and soul
of me.

~Rosa Parks~

The title "diminutive giant" is very fitting Kacy.  A wonderful tribute indeed.

I'd read somewhere that she hadn't intended to start a movement, she was just tired that day.

Now may she rest, kept in our hearts as the spirit of...well, just what is right.

I love ya kace. I knew you would have something special for her, because you are made of the same stuff.

from Rosa
quote:

"Our mistreatment was just not right, and I was tired of it," writes Parks in her recent book, Quiet Strength, (Zondervan PublishingHouse, 1994). "I kept thinking about my mother and my grandparents, and how strong they were. I knew there was a possibility of being mistreated, but an opportunity was being given to me to do what I had asked of others."
The rest of Parks' story is American history...her arrest and trial, a 381-day Montgomery bus boycott, and, finally, the Supreme Court's ruling in November 1956 that segregation on transportation is unconstitutional.
But Parks' personal history has been lost in the retelling. Prior to her arrest, Mrs. Parks had a firm and quiet strength to change things that were unjust. She served as secretary of the NAACP and later Adviser to the NAACP Youth Council, and tried to register to vote on several occasions when it was still nearly impossible to do so. She had run-ins with bus drivers and was evicted from buses. Parks recalls the humiliation: "I didn't want to pay my fare and then go around the back door, because many times, even if you did that, you might not get on the bus at all. They'd probably shut the door, drive off, and leave you standing there."

She could have stood, and made a change.
But she decided to let her body speak.

Bravery

comes in many forms.

I hope she knows just how far
she paid it forward.

K, there are a thousand plus young ladies out there today who know Rosa's spirit, and are willing to carry that banner of resistance to the ends of the world.
Thank you for your input. You too, are a sister of the freedom train, whether you realize it or not.

How loving that sounds, how soothing..how human.

There are many people that come to mind when I think of the ongoing civil rights movement...

Rosa Parks is at the head of that list... for you to have a part of her forever embedded in your heart, is a comfortable thought...her spirit is big enough to be part of every heart..we are all lucky for that...

Your poem/tribute is beautiful Kacy...

to you, dearest ice, and it wasn't until this afternoon that I realized
just how much a part of my heart and soul this one lady has been all these years.
And once upon a time, in Florida, I met Jesse Jackson...and Rosa; though I only saw her from a distance, she had a that rainblow glow that I shall never forget. Rosa touched my heart and soul forever, with her quiet grace and beauty, the simple act of humanity she embraced that day...
"you shall not not treat me as less than..."
and that is what her face showed me that day.

I shall never ever forget her.

God bless her, and God bless you to, darlin, for writing this marvelous milestone of a reminder, for us all to remember...she was the icon of her time, in that horrible part of history....may it never remain, because of her....

Hugs to you and thank you
