Word Chances

There are times when the inspiration
wraps itself around me and the excitement of words
tries to bond with the thoughts that rise so easily
(especially in the morning)... holding in soft smiles
waiting, just waiting to spill over
onto the moments of you.

Then the spaces occur, the lapses in tempo
and tomorrow's beyond stills itself
into a loser's lottery, where nothing has been gained
except the scratching off of that very moment
when words wish to chance their meaning,
being woven into a cloak to gift
and cover you for the day.

It is raining again and I am wearing the clouds,
those filled to the brim with fantasy droplets
and me not maiden enough, to be humored
by your masked presence.

It's the threatening from words
that breaks me in two,
that brings the unsaid into a random chapter
whose write is too long and whose interpretation
is lost to the absurd.

I have a picture of you in my heart
surrounded by life's blood,
wanting you to feel what I know.
The longing may seam day to day
but you cannot measure its warmth
when those memories silence the desires.

When with a velvet touch...
Yes, this is for you.

Maureen, I have goosebumples all over the place! That was a brilliant piece of writing and I am tucking this into my trove of poetic treasures. Treasure Chest
