To write a poem is not hard,
Any fool can be a bard,
Pen and paper, there you are,
I have the tools, I’ll be a star.
What type of meter? What’s that you say?
Just like a taxi, you have to pay?
Is it by the word, or the whole verse,
If it costs money, I’ll make mine terse.
Will my ode rhyme? You ask of me,
Is that some spice? Rosemarie and rhyme?
And then you ask, perhaps a sonnet?
Now stop the train, ‘cause gosh, goldarnit,
I’ll not write dirty, no wash the mouth poem,
‘Cause if words are dirty, I doubt that I’d know ‘em.
Maybe it’s best that I quit don’t you see,
This here poetry business, is too much for me

Listening to every heart

So call me such a likely fool
and one who likes to peter
for over such I seem to drool
and still, with chagrin, try this meter...

and I know
just as it is in
my heart
that I'm more likely
to impart
some free verse rhyme
for it stays
within
but still, this
almost poet,
smiles, and grins,
and thinks,
yes, this is
what it is,
and I will color
outside the lines,
and hope with hope
that maybe, again,
sometimes,
I'll rhyme...
