in the shadows

When night falls
and the reign of tears begins again
with nightmare fears
free to roam awakened,
my heart steers
the only course that takes me
through my dreams;
swallowing the screams
the monsters of my memories
seem to me
simply
to be collecting rent I pay
for every extra day of life.

I know each life never lasts,
forever like the weather,
incarnation has its seasons
and I could rush along sideline paths
and push the time clock
faster
on my own
to ratchet up the tension
without another day of waiting,
but like the itch that can’t be scratched
the gain is merely noise,
all the while
blotting out the background joys,
leaving only simple toys
like ignorance,
and bigotry
and of course my all time favorite one
denial.

Perhaps the best is yet to come....slow down.

denial is a land far away , at times i wish i could go there like most i know, but, i feel, i dont deny anything, i just dont seem to do the right thing about it, or am able to. cant always judge a b ook by a cover, another created. giving up istnt denial, just knowing there is no winning.oh well.

What dear Martie said ...  the NOW has its surprises, the NOW is NOW, ...
sometimes we need to peel off those layers of the past to see beyond darkness, to see the sparks of beauty ...
Always your poems are thought provoking and hold depth.
Love,
Margherita

Icebox I enjoy your poems immmensely. Sounds to me like your weeding the garden that is your soul. Something we all must on occasion. May your garden bear the fruit of peace and joy. :-)

ice...Great poem with many thoughts to ponder. The matrix within our mind and dreams is a place we may never fully understand. We try to control them but we can't...Paul
