Exposed

Who would suspect that eyes as cold as ice
Could hold warm moments they recall
That from their depths could rise a single tear
As sweet as these fair drops that fall

Who would have known this old and callous heart
Has yet to heal from bitter wounds
That it’s most tender years were over spent
In pure desires that time consumes

That grave regret could somehow weigh upon
These shoulders made of manly steel
Bearing down upon the chest that holds
The deepest love that man can feel

For flesh portrays the body’s outer strength
The face is but a  mask of skin
But, oh those eyes, as cold as winter ice
Reveal the warmth that lies within
