At dawn they wane,
Slowly, same as they came on-
With a bit of a buzz
Like street-light phosphorus
Are sinners, when they wake
To five church bell tones;
Leaving is a daybreak ritual.

To return to permanent home;
A man shuffles change-searching
For keys, as neon burns out
From what keeps night safe;
And day stars begins to blaze.

Standing at the casement-
Willow organic
Except for a plastic
Brush in her hand...
Combing night-sweat from curls;
She sings songs of aubade-
Along with birds in the eves.

This hum is most certainly
a window's song, ice...

Thank you.

~ You paint a vivid picture with your poetic ink, Ice Man...

I took the liberty of posting the definition of "aubade" for those who may not know what it means. (I was one of them!)

au·bade (ō-bäd')
n.
A song or instrumental composition concerning, accompanying, or evoking daybreak.
A poem or song of or about lovers separating at dawn.
[French, from Old French albade, from Old Provençal albada, from alba, dawn, aubade, from Latin, feminine of albus, white.]

Love & Light,
Linda

Ford

I'm touched by the beauty of this, and the poet's heart that sees in the dark.

Bitter sweet is parting
If both wish the other remain
But oft' one chooses only
The savage urges of the night....

And that leaves the other with their alone thoughts, was it worth it...hope is that it was and is...

A big thank you, to you all for your replies... there are many classic poems with aubade hidden in their story lines, I urge you to read some of them, know you will enjoy them...

Missed it the first time... It just doesn't get too much better than this. I am going back to read more of what I've been missing.
