On The Lakeshore

Her golden radiance is frozen in time
as she was standing by the lakeshore
on a wooden deck in the July sunshine
the mountains framing her face
the look in her eyes etched inside my heart
I can remember the time and place
as the sky dimmed with silvery stars
and we explored each other
wandering up and down her skin in the dark
and I said I loved her
and I smile now at that naive remark
I was turning eighteen, still green as the spring
in the morning as I watched her awaken
her deep ocean blue was inviting me
and I'm amazed at the memories we were making

My blue innocence is fading silently away
memories of standing with her by the lakeshore
arm around her, smiling for this blessed day
the bright sky warm on my face
looking into her heart left me feeling free
I can remember the time and place
as the world seemed wide open to me
and we discovered each other
wondering and wishing if this love will endure
and I said goodbye to her
and I smile now at that last lovely sight of her
I was turning a new leaf over, as autumn closed in
in the evening I watched the sun fall
her deep ocean blue I wanted to drown in
and I'm amazed at the quiet beauty of that lonely fall

Tonight I'm uncovering
pieces of myself I've left on the lakeshore
tonight I'm wondering
when my feet started wandering
the pathway into the woods,
beginning to blur
drawn by the faint glow of her
the Rocky Mountains dimming me
and my raindrop memories
the shadows close around me
and I'm a little dark star
in the black darkness, gleaming
always I'm dreaming
of the summer on the lakeshore
eighteen and I'm wanting more
from the life I'd been constructing till then
wanting to know when I'll see her again
hope I'll see you again
on the lakeshore, softened by the wind

Her golden radiance is frozen in the sun
as she was standing by the lakeshore
and I know now she wasn't to be my only one
just a prologue to finding so much more
in this rich tapestry of life

What a wonderful bittersweet write of first love.
As I read your piece..I remembered my own feelings..back then.
This is a keeper indeed.

There are no words for this splendid write of yours! It's unreal!

tremendous write Zach....

I keep a fragrance bottle my
muse gave me when I met him
in endless winter and he
settled me into remembering
who I am.

I have had some very beautiful falls as well.

soul drifter

Many can relate to this, in a different place and time, where love hits and takes a part of you to keep, forever.  This was great...really enjoyed!
