left behind

carnival boys, crochet
world-wide miscarriages
out of the confused tears
of hidden tongues

sand castles buried
under a heap of sluge
diet, fitness, love & sex,
cling to a chess board
of rotten eggs

horned royals of slime
lay dead, on their front lawns
so vultures can pick their minds while
tapping the edges of prison bars
with rusty cups & desert prayers
stark indifference, living on the ruby
throats, of brown tattoos
promising heaven

yes,
a day of flea market shoppers
peeking over speed bumps,
with the nibblers
hungry for a feeding frenzy
pickling split personalities
to sell like a
refurbished lamp to the general public
ironing out papers
that some midnight conspiracy wrote

man-made hurricanes loitering
hell bent on throwing grenades
raping ancient sparrows, till their dead
their sons smelling like old navy
stomping on oak floorboards
until history can do nothing
but stay in bed

peering through plea bargaining
of an animated future of frozen debt
and business establishments
stealing from the pockets of defiant souls
turing them inside out, planting drugs
until they’re empty and cold

middle school
stealing cigarettes out of my car
smoking the next generation
with genetically altered products
claiming the constitution is a
photo gallery for party animals

take your pick…the slogans read

how exactly, am i to peel off the dark?
in a supermarket of revolving heavens
that eats up all the children…
and bored dove’s still applaud
some honey-scented organization
with a full inside story
that would retrieve
the charred essence of any day
and make it look like
a summer in new york

i guess i’ll just keep chanting through
the crack in the door
chiseling down the halls of hell
waking up some morning
looking down the barrel of a .38 revolver
lined with a brooch of my grey hair

it costs way to much to get out…

~*~

I went hungry over the weekend,
waiting for my Monday poem!

Once again, I was going to repeat several lines here...

just to say, "yes, this one, and THIS one..."

but the whole danged poem would have been replayed...
