Too Many Losses

She wasn't there to greet me.
She wasn't there at all.
Searching floors from one to three,
No answer to my call.

Then opened door to walk downstairs.
The basement light was lit.
There on ledge she was laid out,
But couldn't sound a bit.

The time had come, the dreaded one,
An ending choice to make.
In pain, would rather not be had
In my arms to take...
......

And there she looked up to my eyes.
A cry so small was heard.
The last of which my heart would hear,
I stood there tear eyes, blurred.

The comfort of the last few years,
She meant the world to me.
Another loss, too many now,
She's gone to heaven's sea.

Sorry to hear, M.

They give us so much
and ask for so little.

Good that you could say goodbye.

)...:  I lost my dog lady.  I loved that dog with all of my heart.  She was sent to a breader and then to a farmer.  She would of been the perfect dog if she didn't have that one problem.

The Blue Bowl

Like primitives we buried the cat
with his bowl.  Bare-handed
we scraped sand and gravel
back into the hole.

They fell with a hiss
and thud on his side,
on his long red fur, the white feathers
between his toes, and his
long, not to say aquiline, nose.

We stood and brushed each other off.
There are sorrows keener than these.

Silent the rest of the day, we worked,
ate, stared, and slept.  It stormed
all night; now it clears, and a robin
burbles from a dripping bush
like a neighbor who means well
but always says the wrong thing.

So sorry for your loss. To love an animal is a blessing, it is hard because it is so short lived.

ya know, this is the very reason why, I cannot get another pet, lossing the last one was way to difficult...

But...whenever I become overwhelmed with loss, I fondly remember the many many times, these critters, were sometimes more human then we coulda ever thought....

Hugs to ya lady...God bless

thank you for the kind responses and caring words...I went away for a short beach vacation knowing she was close to the end...but hoping she would have eaten and bounced back like last year.

She has a resting place in my garden by the fish pond...

Oh, so sorry about this. Lovely picture of her. I am still sad over my loss of my best kitty in the world in 1998. Bless you.

I'm sorry Maureen.
I tear up reading your write, it brings back thoughts of the beloved cat I once had.

The spotlight can only get brighter.
