Mere Thought

Mere thought never entered my mind.
Caustic runnels eating my heart
could not be . . . mere thought . . .
anymore than I can accept –

your death –

whatever the reason
or not.

Lugubriously rising
from your side of the bed –
the side where you use to lay –
I see blood shot eyes,
more than just an unshaven face,
unkempt hair.

Looking back is  man given to feeling sorry
for himself.

For himself –
the product of mere thought of past
months dead – You.

Months dead – whatever the reason
or not.

And me dying inside
like some beetle riddled pine
rotting from the core.

Mere thought never entered my mind,
but it’s leading me to death’s own chasm
as surely as the bullet in the gun
I cannot use.

Slowly, inexorably, mere thought
is taking me home
to you.

...nope, don't have any idea where this came from...
guess it's just...mere thought.

James?

I once wrote of knowing more death than life and I have, and I also write of being in that most perfect plane for death is something I do not fear.  The sad thing about death, is that it is far more painful for those us of us living, in my opinion.  The soul travels to sweet release and we are left to live.

to you, my sweet friend, I know this place very well, unfortunately.

Well it sure does tug at the heart strings,
wherever it came from.
