Doesn’t matter the hour,
Just another blue bayou morning
Gin sloe in catlike stretches.
Tapestry heavy in beaded sweat,
Weighed down by held in tears and fears.

Slowly, her lazy day smile births.
This day creation’s smile lingers long
On blood red clay painted soiled toes
That only yesterday made laughter
In murky Mississippi mud
To cool down the bayou blues.

No hell here, this is her heaven.
A place she calls home.
Lovingly placed sun-seared bricks
Mark a garden’s mortared path
Fit for any Goddess.
Lovingly laid with others’ heavy stones
They carefully placed in the palm of her hand
For “safekeeping.”
A garden where each flower has a name,
That once meant love and life.

This is a place called home,
Where insanity parks at the door.
Sojourners who carry baggage
Wrapped in hopelessness are forever welcome.
They rest weary bones on a story or poem told
Most often, not understood, but,
Still they come to listen to her bayou blues.

If I could knock on her door, I would.
Stand there where sun warms
A rosy smile framed in rose arbors.
I am just another weary, worn out rock
Seeking the “Serenity” of her palm.

Would she take me down that river
of tears we both once sailed?
Or would we build a raft of reason
Strong enough to hold the fears of us
Then sail away to disappear?

Then again, I think,
She would pull me to her breast,
Rock me in her blue notes of song,
To soothe me with her healing gifts.
That is just the way of our Bayou Blue.

I was trying to think what I could give Karen for her birthday (on Monday) that wouldn't have to be sent! and I figured the gift of acceptance and understanding worked just fine!  So, thank you for also your understanding of this very strong woman.

You have not lived until you heard Serenity sing, did you know that?  She puts the blue in blues I tell you, I felt honored.  Yes she is indeed a lady.

I just came back for a second read and saw that I hadn't replied the first time! I had gone into the link that you provided and was caught up in exploring Serenity and her Twisted sister's fascinating and informative site!

As for the poem, Karen, and you! ~ all are terrific in my books!

Sending belated birthday wishes and this cake I baked Birthday Cake

And Karen, that is a stunning photo of you!
~ all that talent and good looks too!

When we moved last summer I lost a box of some of my dearest possessions. A box of books, all classics, my annotated Shakespeare, Donne, Wordsworth, and even my brother's study bible with all of his notations in the margin. But also amid those treasures was a scrapbook I'd made with many of my favorite Pip poems, kindnesses I'd been shown by poets here at Pip -some printed out, some written out in my own hand.

When I would have a bad day I'd look through it, to remind myself that I had friends.

Time to start a new book, I say.

Your poem touched me deeply Sharon and the replies underlined the love.

*hand over heart*

Love to all--a kinder group of people does not exist in my life outside of these blue walls.

thank you

Love flows and circles among these poetic souls here at Pip.

Your words, dear Sharon, say it beautifully.

Reaching out with a hug for you and for dear Serenity.

Love and Joy.

tomorrow night I'll be coming out of retirement--one night only, on my back porch.

Featured song will be an ole lonesome blues song, called "Trouble in Mind" by R.M. Jones:

"Trouble in mind, I'm blue,
but I won't be blue always
'Cause the sun gonna shine,
in-a my backdoor someday
Trouble in mind, it's true,
I almost lost my mind
Life ain't worth livin', baby,
sometime I feel like dyin'
I'm gonna lay my head,
on some lonesome railroad track
Let a 2:19 train, ah,
ease my worried mind..."

(I'll prolly have to sing House of the Rising Sun, too, but hey, y'gotta pay the rent.)

*cackle*

love you Sharon

If your party was half as glorious as you, then I know you had a fabulous time!

love you lady
