I stare up from
My coffee cup
Only to find you avoiding me
I stare straight
Into the void
Between waking dreams
And nightmares
I burn my tongue
As you put down
the sunday paper
I quickly focus my energy
on the scrambled eggs
at the end of my fork
I feel your thoughts
weighing me down
And your eyes crawling
over my skin
I feel you taking a sip
Of the bitter coffee
I hope it burns a hole
Through your very existence
Sometimes I wish you could
Read my lips
You claimed a thousand times before
You could
But I laugh
When this sugar tastes better
Than your kisses ever did
If only you knew
That this is going to be
Your last cup of morning coffee
With me sitting here
being seen and not heard
And the last taste of my salty cries
In the middle of the night
And the last time I'll ever let you enter
my inner sanctuary

If at first you don't succeed destroy all the evidence that you tried.

You described this awkward atmosphere so powerfully.

An inner sanctuary can only be entered with the secret key of love. When this key is missing, doors remain shut.

Great psychologically significant write.

I know that this is a repost, but I'm hoping that what you experienced back then, does not apply to your life now.

You vividly portrayed a heart-rendering scenario that is sadly true of many relationships once the blossom is off the rose.

Your poetry always touches ...

Loving hugs,
Linda

Good for you m'friend.

There is power in the knowing

the knowing, of when the cup that you drink from is dry

Great write

fANTASTIC...wonderful writing of someone that is yearning for some recognition from one that is emotionally unavailable...I know this torture...also know another that endured it for many years...James

i hope your conviction brought you through that strange and awkward breakfast and right through the front door...

the calm nature of your words reflects your intensity and belies the rage that stirs within, so repressed.

mmmm....
that's good poetry.

we are what we seek
