in the shadows

Women leave
and that's a fact,
one day they turn
and don't turn back,
the trick's in learning comfort
with duplicity,
to ignore the hurt
avoid the pity,
since it is built into their genes
like accepting mold and damp
when living where it always rains,
like learning that a dog
having bitten once
may always bite again.

As they close the door
I watch them walk away,
I don't ever stop to say
or ask why
they choose a single day,
over any other;
it’s two steps forward
two steps back,
new hearts always
can be bought off the rack,
the hardest tack for memory
is the simple art of knowing
when the pains should not be showing,
that I was never meant to take it
personally.

Always reasons are too loose,
the walls of self
no more define existence,
no chance left upon reflection,
"mine eyes have seen the glory"
only other's introspection
and the loss
of that which had been sighed upon,
promised as a thing,
tangible in dreams alone,
that should have been forever
and yet
becomes always gone
in time,
becomes that which can not be contained
within.

Shake the rattle,
ring the bell,
meet me at the gates of hell;
if you really want to see a ride,
when you stare
into the soul of another
see what happens by forgetting
it is polite to stand in shadows
on the side.

not always...

but I wish there were a better way, until then, it's good with bad for as long as it last.

either way...I love reading what you have to say about it.

Not "all" woman!  I, usually stay too long!

I,too, stay too long. But one day something in me just snapped. And there is no turning back for me.

Excellent I like this one.

Dear Box of Ice, it may be that it was the wrong women that have done you wrong. The right women would do you right!

perchance it's one of those self-fulfilling prophecy things...
