we had tropical fish once
in a tank by the television
on a cast iron
stand

they swam around
and around

they got fat
and
blew bubbles
       into the blinds

until, one by one
they drowned
yup drowned

grin

they looked great there
beneath the fluorescent
under the water
spitting chips
and swishing their

tales

as we held ours

p.s sorry for this, was feeling rather glum

guess you've gotta change the water sometimes, and come up for a bubble of fresh air

i watched one die one day
while i had a pedicure
in a tank, where no one but me
cried for him, not even his mother
knew he hit his head against a giant
rock in the tank......
cry angel cry............for them
they know

Geez Maree!  You know I love your writing, but come on!  You can't go giving the great-white-hunter a lump in his throat over a fish!  You know you must be good if you can choke me up with a fish story!  It really was a brilliantly written poem as always.  It's a blessing to find your posts whenever I get on the blue pages.  I hope you are feeling better.  Be "un-glum!"

Warm wishes from afar,

Big K

Well, Darksis

That aquarium would make a dandy terrarium.

(And ya wouldn't need to scrape algae from the glass.)
