I thought of you today and wondered
Why?
Why were we not ever able to talk
As two humans willing to share?

It was almost always an adversarial moment
Between us, neither ever willing to give in.
Why?
Why were we both so damned stubborn?

Soon, it will be Mother’s Day again,
And your birthday always follows close behind.
I never followed you.
And you never turned around to see where I was.

Still, I wished you peace and contentment.
I wished for you all the roses I never gifted you.
And I forgave you long ago, (though you did not know),
For pushing me into a dark corner, rejecting me.

I thought of you today and wondered
Why?
Why were we not ever able to talk

I have someone who doesn't want to try to talk with me either, so yes, I understand this one, even while it breaks my already broken heart.

I'll keep trying though.

He's just not the huggy type, and I'm not, um, politically correct enough to tell polite lies.

<--I guess I could start by stopping the cheap shots, huh?

And it's always more difficult when it's an immediate family member you can't seem to communicate with.

reminded me of my husband...who always seems to walk many paces ahead of me....and a few times I got tired of it...and went my own way...wondering if he would even notice. Guess what? He didn't....sigh! After I told him, he realized he was being insensitive...and now he tries to remember to walk beside me. Thanks for this poem!
