The recollection
of my eyes stroking her,
hypnotically
ease fills to flowing and over,
time slows to shades of grace
and serenity.

With devoted breath
I draw in
the elusive perfume
of her company.

For the night...
a moment into morning,
while desire still
surpasses need,
I lie
within her favor
and declare
“I am complete”.

Tomorrow,

I will ache
and speculate precisely why,
supposing a bit of this,
some of that,
and certainly...
the absence of the answer
to all that ailed me.

Thumb absently circling
index finger,
I dare recall
peeling the tin foil dress
from the promise
of her light brown skin
and all I needed
to be fine
again.

‘It was a short affair’ I think,
recognizing my arrogance
in declaring her end
so casually.
But I am bold
in my morning confidence,
falsely secured
by the sweet steaming coffee
and skunk scented smoke.

‘Spring’ I say aloud
‘Things will be alright
in spring’.

Just like the song goes, there is that certain someone whom we're always better together with, even when we're in between.  And just like the seasons, they don't really change all that much.

So there you wrote it, it's along the same lines as the lyrics  by Jack Johnson, and it says it all.
So says the bluesy one~  It's sweet goob,  and she's a lucky gal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And our dreams they're made out of real things,
like a shoe box of photographs and sepia tone loving.
Love is the answer, at least to most of the questions in my heart
why are we here, and where do we go, and why is it so hard.
It's not always easy and sometimes life can be deceiving,
but I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together.
The edit queen strikes again, big teeth and all!
the poem is a good one.
"For the night...
a moment into morning,
while desire still
surpasses need,
I lie
within her favor
and declare
“I am complete”."
this.... could have come from my very own thoughts !! thank you for sharing it !!
Thank you all for the great responses.
And just for the record, this poem wasn't about a woman.
It's about a drug.
In reading this poem again, I truly do understand and relate. But alcohol is my drug of choice.
There is just something very sensual and touching about a woman writing about a woman in a loving way, and I had thought that's what this was about. Men write about women like this every day and it just doesn't have the same effect.
Other people might not feel the same way.
This reminds me of a story.
I once wrote a guy's number on the only paper I could find in my purse.
I never did call him.
When he finally called me, I had to explain to him that I smoked it. At least I got SOME pleasure out of him...sheesh.
I didn't tell him that though.
There's enough pain in the world--no need to add to it, methinks.
Love ya Dunc.
