I opened your book tonight
read the slow tease of thoughts
and remembered how parched this
land so long ago

was I not powerless then?

I read your heart's lament
of life and love
searching for a peice of me
along the ripened vines or
even if I mattered enough to
be weaved in thorns

ambiguity had always been your
strong suit

and I, too near your flame to
examine without getting burned

my wings still bear scar from
the singe of that reality

today, as time and distance
lay balm over points once too
sore for touch
I find I am touched deeply
by this indelible knowing
of soul to soul

you've taught me so much

again, I take to flight
and with all my might dare
away from sultry flame where
once I'd burned beneath heated
engage, willing

I opened your book tonight

remembered the please of you

and smiled...

me too..every time I read the words of the ones I care most about..

wonderfully done.
