Just think about it
Water, water everywhere
No a drop to drink

How about a wet

"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

Something I remember from an old book......

Thank you Laura, you've said in a nutshell what so many are thinking. They claim big numbers the other way in "the polls", but I don't know a single person who has said they think it's all right, and many who think it's an abomination that we're allowing to happen.

I was just talking about this a few minutes ago....something as simple as water being deprived...

it makes me ache.

AND they have arrested people for trying to bring her water IN BOTTLES that a normal person could drink from but supposedly she can't....just in case she might manage to swallow water as she does her own saliva....

They aren't letting her die, they're causing her to die -- Affirmative Action for invalids.

Thank you all so very much for your wonderful responses. I truly appreciate them.

I'll admit it... I'm baffled. I've been staring at the 8th amendment to the US Constitution all morning... and simply can't believe it was written to protect only criminals.

If someone is starving an animal, the SPCA steps in - someone is arrested... and deservedly so.

Can you imagine starving a murderer to death? Denying him a sip of water? Of course not... we're too civilized, too humane... we are not barbarians. *sigh*

Or are we?

The "experts" say she doesn't feel and I pray they're right... but that doesn't make this right... and every moment is felt... in hearts across the world.

The poem is beautifully done.  The reality is ugly.

Nice writing...seems like the main issue is that the Judge agreed with the husband, that his wife wished to die if in this position...so he ruled in favor of the husband...now thats a new issue...what husband would want his wife to die without even a glass of water...of course the fact that he has a new girlfriend wouldn't have any influence on his decisions...his life was going on...and he didn't want hers to go on...James

what we do to others, we also do to ourselves...

This is, to me, a very sad and frustrating time...makes me want to go into seclusion more...all one can do is shake their head...
cry and pray for forgiveness, my hands feel so tightly bound....I'm embarrassed...

Darlin, hugs to you for this...I cannot remember any issue which bothered me more, the grief inside is an awakening of sorts...and there is nothing we can do....
It seems so demoralizing, so controlling, so out of convenience, so brutal..and "we" as a nation, have the nerve to fight wars, when we can't even value life here, take care of our own.  Seems like we've taken a step back, instead of forward...

years ago I worked with severely mentally retarded children, children who were not unlike Terry...and I cannot tell you the love which flowed from their eyes, the innocence....the complete dependence on us for care and life...

I say again, they better tell me, how in God's name was Dr. Kovorcian any worse and deserved prision?

sorely sorry for ranting....and thank you for your support and this poem...my only prayer is, that Terri knows, and feels the outpour of dispair for her....

Something is very very wrong with moral education here, this is barbarric...then tell me, how are we any better then Hitler?

Sheeesh?????

An excellent write, Southern!

I also read the other responders.  Clearly a difficult issue from all sides.  I tell you ALL, I NEVER want to "live" in that condition.  Forcing me to "stay", in that condition, is un-just to ME.  I regret the circus side-show this serious issue has become.  I do grieve Terry's passing.
