SILENT SCREAM
~ Linda L. Dowd

I was lost and all alone in the middle of a crowd,
And heard only silence in the din of voices loud.
Time had simply stopped and all stood very still,
I was in my inner space with no purpose and no will.

All was just a blur before unfocused eyes,
My tail was in a spin from his self-serving lies.
No longer did I know which way was up or even down,
As aimlessly I wandered thru’ the  unfamiliar town.

It hurt too much to feel so I welcomed in the numb,
For my world had imploded by the things that he had done.
The walls around my heart had tumbled down with his smooth talk,
And now I wander unknown streets in dazed and aimless walk.

I passed by the harbor lights without really seeing,
~ Away from all the pain ~ feet of lead were slowly fleeing.
I begged to be wakened from this paralyzing dream,
Then found myself at edge of bed in mid of silent scream…

Linda...a bad dream is so much better then the real thing.  You are so full of light..I doubt if much dark can even enter.

Oh, Linda, I hope this was an older poem.  I do know the terror of that kind of dream though.  I'm hoping your dreams tonight are sunny and light.     and rainbow colors......lily jo

Martie, thank you for such a lovely reply. This was a nightmare that I had repeatedly several years ago when my marriage was breaking up.

I've had similar dreams. Always placing myself a far distance from home and having a terrible time finding my way back. Good write

Hush, dear Angel;
We are all here to hug you
when you scream...
But always write your feelings down,
For other poets know your burdens,
and the meanings of your worded sounds...

Very nice Linda.

I am glad you don't have those dreams anymore.  That is the kind that leave you with a feeling of dread the entire day.

It's strange... I read the title... and immediately thought of recurring nightmares... maybe because I was cursed by one for so long... and never could quite understand why the oak tree topping a hillside of daffodils was an infrequent visitor to my nights... while the bad ones hopped into my bed as I turned back the sheets. *S*

It hurt too much to feel so I welcomed in the numb,

Now this... I know whether sleeping or not! *S*

Excellent write, my friend... and I hope all your dreams are sweet ones now. *S*

this is powerful.
it is genuine where too many poems like this are overly cliche.

Suthern Belle ~

May the dream of sweet ~ "the oak tree topping a hillside of daffodils" be a frequent visitor in your nights... and may the mares of night skidaddle as soon as you turn back the sheets!

Your comment to this line ("It hurt too much to feel so I welcomed in the numb,")
~ "Now this... I know whether sleeping or not!" ~ really tugged at my heart because I know it wasn't just poetry.

Sending you an extra loving hug,

Red Dreams ~

Thank you! Actually, I can be accused of writing poems myself that are considered "cliche"! lol I write all over the place! I even surprise myself at what flows (or doesn't flow!) from my pen! I just write away and hope for the best!

Thanks for dropping by!

Susan ~

Actually, although I write mostly of Light, I also enjoy writing poems that tend to be on the dark side as well! Halloween provides fine poetic fodder! lol
