Monkey man sits here staring at me,
never chastising, never cajoling, never scolding,
maintaining a look of wonderment and pondering,
imagining what tricks we humans may yet perform.

What have humans got up their proverbial sleeves?

I cannot give him any answers, straight or curved.
For I have yet to successfully comprehend
the reality
that so many humans apparently accept so readily
as an ultimate unshakeable undeniable truth,
that humans are superior to all other species.

Yet I, for some inexplicable reason,
don’t see it...don’t buy it...don’t believe it.
So perhaps I am doomed, incapable of understanding
why we humans are so adept at screwing up
everything we see, touch, taste or smell,
all the while smiling at our reflections in the mirror
smugly,
patting ourselves on the back while
kicking ourselves in the derriere.

Monkey man sits here staring at me,
waiting for an answer that might make sense.
But I have none to offer.
Do you?

*Monkey man is a stuffed animal that sits on my computer desk.
He has a very thoughtful pondering a-musing expression, and a steady stare.

When I saw the title, I immediately
thought of my old sock-monkey...
and of the stuffed monkey my father
use to carry around when he knew he
would be around a lot of kids,
for he had clever ways of entertaining
children, and this particular stuffed
monkey was able to "laugh" when Dad
would tell it a joke...

so, I could safely say you kicked me
in the derriere with a wonderful memory...

thank you all for sharing time with me in my cage. LOL, this particular stuffed animal is a skinny long legged monkey with velcro wraparound arms.  I think its supposed to be a howler monkey. S(he) has this pensive intelligent look that always gets me to pondering the fate of the planet.

I like to think that we humans have this little seed of devinity sewn within us that if we nourish it, we can grow to great accomplishments - yes, we have many, many problems - but then we are supposed to be problem solvers -

I think Kacy - you will see most people are doing the best that they can - and I think you monkey man sees it too, when he looks at you - he thinks to himself "what a wonderful creature, that she should have the intellect to sit there and question her own motives, needs, and drives- and does not simply ravish what she desires . . ."

I always enjoy the considerations you pose in your posts -

Susan

If I wander far enough, long enough, will I finally know . . .
