                                        desert flower

                                        patient in
                                                   her
                                        crux of rock

                                        she
                                        passes her
                                                     self on
                                              mother into
                                        daughter
                                                 seed into
                                                       seed

                                                   gone in
                                              days
                                        she lives
                                                   forever

                                        I disappear
                                                     so
                                           quickly

Ed

The desert flower can cause you to write a poem that lives on, but she cannot write a poem....she is a poem!  Lovely, photo and poem.  I need to get out to see the wildflowers while I still can.

I saw on the news the other day
where the desert was abloom...
like never before...
and Death Valley
held fragile life abundantly...
and in glorious color...

and that even the long-timers
hadn't seen so much of the desert's
hidden gifts, ever...

such is the stuff of miracles.

Like this poem.

Just back from the desert myself...and this brought me right back once again.

This is the moment to go out there, eh, Eric?

If you only drive by, the flowers are astounding....and when you get out and walk among them....then look down to see flowers you would never have seen from a distance....

....even flowers the size of this: * in a dozen colors, rising on tiny stalks perhaps an inch out of the grit that passes for soil out there, beside waist-high yellow displays, and ten-foot ocotillo lancing the sky with their red flags.....it is good, and more than good.

You may disappear quickly from the desert, my friend... but you have a forever home in the hearts of all who know you. *S* You're truly an artist... your poems are always the epitome of excellence... but these pictures show your talent has many outlets. This is incredibly lovely!

And your words... how perfectly you've captured the wait... dormant through years and even decades... for this moment of life, this explosion of beauty... this capturing the moment given before another wait begins.

I absolutely adore this. Man I needed to see color again. I am so sick of winter. Looks like I did not move far enough South when I came here from Canada. ROFLMAO!

It lifts me to see replies like these, it truly does. To write a poem and know it reached somebody....guess I don't have to tell any of you folks how good that feels, to I!

Beautiful read, the pictures are just as beautiful.
I must agree with EV2 on seeing colors instead
of a blanket of white.
Thank-you Ratleader for sharing such a beautiful read, pictures both.

Happy Easter

I think the only flowers that I could find around here are in someone else's yard

but this write of yours makes me want to go searching

Omg, but this makes me ache to go see the desert in bloom!
I always visited the desert wildflowers each spring in California, seeking those vibrant beauties which bloom just once.
Thanks for the photo visit, Ed.

simple, like what you describe.

i like the formatting, its almost like a cactus, or maybe just a stem climbing up.

YESSS!!!! Majnu wins the washer and dryer!

I was doing exactly that, copying (or trying to) the gangly shapes of those flowers, hoping it would help give a better feel of the place -- it's a way of writing that I use sometimes when the subject is thin but intense....I hang the words one at a time, like little mirrors on a mobile....I call it "dangling words" for want of a better name......

Thank you for showing us the desert as it looks now.  I've been away from it too long and love the memories of the desert in bloom.  This was just beautiful, Ed.
