A ‘Toon of Scones and Tea

high water is a boon
to Mercury at noon
it roils and boils and soon
we’d have a spot of tea

fine Englishmen, I say,
would gladly wile away
with scones and tea in May
beside an azure sea

so surely you’d agree
quite equally with me
that tea beside the sea
would sweetly frame the day

tho Englishmen we’re not
they’d rightly hit the spot
sweet scones and tea that’s hot
at a table by the bay

two chairs with comfy pads
a couple deep-fried shads
we’d talk of crazy fads
‘til many hours past noon

we’d munch and sip and chat
on crumpets, things like that,
and grow rotundly fat
before twas half-past June

Whether on the shoal or on the shore,
I'll seek the lighthouse evermore.

This is delightful, quirky and fun to read with superb rhyme and rhythm.

Here in the midst of my lonely abyss, a single joy I find...your presence in my mind.  Unknown
