Slow,
as your road
tires of its coasts,
and sheds its metal coat
over tar, to run bare
in the November dust,
into wind, its unrest
like sutures of rain,
seamless, at last dims
and reaching, falls short,
too slow to touch me
in the night, this night
the color of ash, of ember
immersed in haloes,
wreathed in lonliness
and caged by quiet, incessant
as the light grows later
and a little more useless,
marking my fall
by the shot of a slow, slow bullet,
its heat spreading like thirst
instead of by this silence
that swims over me,
hard-edged, inconsolable
and all-consuming, as it rises
to loom at the ends
of the bloody chains I drag,
snag, snarling and barking
at what onslaughts they guard,
but alas, no bulletproof soul, this.

The soul breaths day or night, out of sight.
Enjoyed

Very beautiful. Loved every word. I gotta archive this one...

caged by quiet... an interesting image all its own, but put together as it is..a nice blending of dark and light..of chaos and calm.
