we were hemingway
in some daydream hamlet
where the sun was 3ish
and senoras wore cotton
over heavy heavenly

julio played his guitar
and toe tapped his sandal
you pulled your shawl down
and leaned low to my eyes
the ladies made their own music

you laughed at my uniform
said it was too short
you took it off me
and said it looked good
on the floor by the door

I wrote on your back
with lemon drops
you guessed the words
and said they were poems
then you laughed

and said they were naughty
I wrote on your hip then
with my whispered breath
you said I made you crazy
and it was time for dinner

but could we ride the burros first

another scene from the playhouse
in your mind...
I enjoyed being in the front row.

"but could we ride the burros first"

I didn't know you had burros too....not fast but they do have rhythm, yes?
