Where no tyranny is tolerable

The Water and the air

They think I am asleep
But I can hear them.
I pretend to be asleep,
But I can hear those women talking----
The manager and that flunkie of her's
They jibber and jibber,
Sounding even worse
than a pair of angry locusts.
They're debating the best way
to get me out of the apartment,
in flagrant violation of my lease.
They decide to get rid of me
by closing all the doors and windows
and flooding the apartment.
As soon as I am sure they're gone,
I walk around,
exploring the apartment.
As I do this, there's a hissing sound,
and the first rivulets of water
reach me on the floor.
I float in the air
a few feet above the water.
I open a window they forgot to lock
and make my way to the sidewalk.

since apparently I can float above the ground,
I decide to play some games
to explore this new capacity.
I can hear the manager yelling about the water,
but I pretend that I do not.
After all,
Doesn't she remember I am deaf? hahahha! ...
Besides I am too busy
floating in the air.
I decide to see how far I can glide,
and for how long I can stay aloft.
I brace myself against the pole
under the traffic signal
and push off with hands and feet.
I glide all the way down the block,
without even touching the sidewalk
I overshoot the corner
and fly directly into rush-hour traffic,
but I am not hurt
and get out of the street in time.

I woman, sounding breathless, comes to me.
She can't believe she saw what she just saw.
She wants to know do I need help.
No, I tell her, that I'm fine.
If she wants, she can watch me playing,
flying up and down the street.
But for the moment, I must wait.
An RTD bus has pulled into the driveway.
And I can only fly a few feet up.
I wonder why a City bus
would park in someone's driveway.
I didn't know the drive was there,
because I flew over it
without touching the pavement.
I don't know where I am.
I don't have a place to live,
but if I had some change,
I could ride some busses home.
I'll just tell the drivers
where I need to go
and they will direct me.
But I don't have any change.
I ponder my predicament.
I am going home,
but don't have a place to live.
I can ride the bus,
but I can't ride the bus.
The traffic roars round me,
and the wind is blowing colder.
Then it comes to me that I am dreaming,
that I do have a place to live,
and that all I need do to get there
is wake up.
It works,
but I have to do it twice.

Oh my, Jaime, this dream sequence is fun and scary at the same time! If all the homeless of Denver and Portland started flying around like that, the city traffic managers would have to install traffic signals on the tops of the tall buildings.
Stay grounded 'till you get your wings. LOL
