Latter November, brings freezing weather,
Yet children insist on playing outside;
Not caring that gay-time in summer is better.
*
Parents sit shivering, cold not denied
On park-benches, over-which, winds blow steady,
Yet children insist on playing outside
*
The grit in the sand-box, is frozen already;
Sad faces turning towards those that sit,
On park-benches, over-which winds blow steady.
*
Waves towards the swings, gives the kids a hint,
Smiles take frown-places, in instants, away from
Sad faces turning towards those that sit.
*
No matter the season, children must play some;
Latter November, brings freezing weather,
Smiles take frown-places, in instants, away from
Not caring that gay-time in summer is better.

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.
Longfellow

Smiling at this, because it is so true,
and beautifully written!
Even in the grip of an Alaskan or Siberian winter, the children bundle up and go outside, if only for a few minutes at a time.
Happy holidays to you!

We can certainly learn from children. Recalling endless hours in the snow that now make me shiver. I yet force myself to walk as much as 5 miles through it (the secret? move fast) Enjoyed

You wrote this well Ford.  Enjoyed the structure, the construction, the scene and the faces.

Ah, my child seems to think summer is still here - disregarding socks and long pants - I must keep atop of things or she's outside in sandals and shorts - had our fist snow today!  But her joy is my joy, even if I must dampen it a bit by insisting on the socks beneath the sandals and compromising with those pants that come down just below the knee (can't think of the name - drawing a blank )

Enjoyed this -

Enjoyed this one greatly.
Nothing like those red cheeks, glowing in pleasure!
... and then the joy of getting inside again, appreciating the warmth.
(to keep warm, sitting on the bench, doesn't seem ideal ... a little movement will help!)

Beautiful.

Love, Margherita

If we could all feel with a child's heart, it would be summer all the time, not matter the temperature.  I loved the attitude in this!
