Fraying hem, falls to it’s knees
History is strewn, undone in yarns
Old treasures become applause
Served in a dotted world
Like long steamed crystal, when clinked in accord
My lips are determined and fulsome

Connecting spaces between horizontals are
Avid Greeks wearing laurels
Toes curled, leaning towards the mainsail
Collapsing beneath me, unpainted and pale

Trick or treating daydreams wince
Sideswiped by zebras hexed
Reading struggles, spiraling in descent
A rational woman by faith and sealants
Tucked around my lover’s arms
Balancing everything he consoles

Zesty compassion breaks through
Options allow our entry to words
Painting oceans with watercolors
Like the world is an Olympic catapult

My face hides from him like a rock
Where a river’s current of debris mocks
Standing on my own ignorance
Face down in his beautiful song

Bruising my elbows grinding poetry to the ground
I ask the wind to bless his drunkenness
While refilling my valium order
Loyalists invite me to dinner

I visit Harvard’s shelves of fiction
Affected by Utopian thinking
And quick-witted despair
Knowing to do so would put me on welfare

Wrestling the clutches of romantic execution
I patiently wait for the search and rescue
Brooding the reality of bittersweet truth
While listening to the evening news
His heart belongs to Veronica Lake
His happiness becomes my only namesake

Mind expansion becomes a pairing poet
Where spring is caught in the act
Writing journals of letters and life
My muse smiles in allowances
Placing thoughts in his back pocket

Perhaps someday one single revision
Will be my “Happy New Year” behind the eyes and
Love will become the organized deception
Of my then, newly brainwashed mind
Unexpectedly witty…on the desk of my heart

This was a very interesting read. I enjoyed the images you painted.

Happiness isn't something that happens to you, it's created from within you.  Joy is a state of mind.

Brilliantly written, LeeJ.
I see something new each time I read it.

And this:

"Perhaps someday one single revision
Will be my “Happy New Year” behind the eyes and
Love will become the organized deception
Of my then, newly brainwashed mind
Unexpectedly witty…on the desk of my heart"

...makes me want to reach out and protect you somehow!!!!!!

Keeping this one.

Poignant write, yet forward looking: your hope, your muse and reality will become one??
Maybe I’m reading too much into this one?  Very moving read.  Really enjoyed this one Lee J.
