Love Challenged

Those thoughts, they stay
not hidden away
but rising every morning,
to let me know I am alive.

They cling to my skin
covering me with you
even if
only in memory.

They reach my fingertips as I touch
and I can still feel the warmth
that penetrated
each time I would feel the softness
of expression
upon your face.

I am love challenged
forgetting what it is,
imagining what I wish...
the two   miles apart.

But it is easing ( I say to myself)
less tears than smiles
becoming the norm.

Lingering thoughts
beginning to let go
and soon
the only warmth I will need
will be supplied by a soapstone stove,
an evening's toast,
the bliss of another Winter,
and time.
M

A new word to my vocabulary "Love Challenged".  I like that and it fits me well, almost as well as you have written it.  This is a great write!

And an old steel bath
warmed by an old steel bucket

warmed by the west wind

Good words as ever

Well, not quite the "only warmth" but, yeah . . . and, yeah.
